I know you’re wondering what does house cleaning have to do with nutrition coaching. Turns out maybe more than you think.
Grab a coffee & get comfy in your favorite chair.
I want to share something that happened to me recently that really made me RECONSIDER a limiting belief I had – one that, it turns out, was not serving me.
First I’ll share with you that I am a lousy house cleaner. At least I always thought I was, or it was more that I thought it was a waste of my time. For years, I’d told myself there was a million things I could be doing with my time that were more important to me – like my fitness, my work, quiet relaxing time. I call those things my VALUE BUCKETS, those things that are really important to me. And when I find myself making a decision about what to spend my time, money or energy on – I think about how many of my value buckets it will fulfill. It helps me determine whether or not something is a worthy investment.
So back to the house cleaning…
After losing my cleaner months ago, and with company coming later that week (isn’t that always when we finally break down and clean the house?!) I found myself ‘having’ to clean. After several hours of scrubbing and sweeping, I had such a great uh-oh moment. One of those ones you just want to share with the world!
Here’s what’s was suddenly flashing in front of me in proverbial neon flashing lights:
- I sweated buckets while cleaning!!! Hello cardio and calorie burning! and um… is this one of my value buckets??
- I turned on the tunes, zoned out, and felt so chillax’ed. I even had the most brilliant & creative ideas for biz stuff firing away in my mind as it was free to just roam. Um… hello mental wellness.
- When I was done cleaning that afternoon (as is always the case but I just didn’t really think about it til this day) I just felt so grounded and calm because my physical surroundings were so clean and organized now.
You see where this is going, eh?
Not only was my belief that house cleaning wasn’t important to me dead wrong, I realized that in fact – house cleaning checks off several of my value buckets!!!
So now I not only avoid it, I actually BUILD it into my wellness plan.
I encourage you to reconsider what your limiting believes might be in your life right now, especially when it comes to your fitness or health, physically or mentally.
Maybe there’s something you’re not investing your time or money on right now because it feels like too much work or not worthy of the effort. Or maybe there’s things you are investing your energy on right now that are not fulfilling your value buckets at all. It’s amazing how an exercise like this can help to bring things into perspective. I hope it does for you too 🙂
